A seminar titled “Migration Management in Germany: Exploring the Multi-Level System” was held on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), jointly organized by the Cyprus Policy Center (CPC) and the Department of Political Science and International Relations. The opening remarks were delivered by Prof. Dr. Ahmet Sözen, Chair of the Department of Political Science and International Relations and Director of the CPC, who also introduced the seminar’s speaker, Zeynep Aydar.

Zeynep Aydar began her presentation by outlining how Germany approaches and manages migration. She explained that Germany’s migration policy aims to govern, regulate, and limit the entry of foreign nationals into the country. She emphasized the German society’s capacity to receive and integrate newcomers, as well as the significance of economic and labor market interests. Aydar also noted that migration policy serves to fulfill the humanitarian responsibilities of German citizens.

Continuing her talk, she highlighted that there are implementation issues within migration policies which need to be addressed in the short term. She emphasized that robust migration policies are a vital component of liberal democracies.

During the highly interactive seminar, in response to questions from the audience and under the moderation of Prof. Dr. Ahmet Sözen, Zeynep Aydar remarked that due to the migration culture embedded within German society, German citizens tend to be familiar with and receptive to migrants.
