On Wednesday, 17 December 2025, Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Cyprus Policy Center (CPC), in cooperation with the Department of Political Science and International Relations, hosted a seminar titled “A Diplomat’s Life: Modern Nomadism.” The event attracted strong interest from students and academic staff.The seminar was moderated by Prof. Dr. Ahmet Sözen, Head of the EMU Department of Political Science and International Relations and Director of the EMU CPC. In his opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Sözen introduced the guest speaker, Işıl Gürler, Consul General of the Republic of Türkiye in Famagusta, and highlighted the importance of exposing students to practical diplomatic experience.
In her presentation, Gürler shared insights from her diplomatic career, drawing on her professional experiences at Turkish missions in Lisbon, Lefkoşa, Doha, Dublin, and Prague. She emphasized that diplomacy extends beyond formal negotiations and requires adaptability, effective communication, and representational skills. Gürler also reflected on balancing a demanding professional career with personal life, offering practical advice to students aspiring to careers in diplomacy.
The seminar concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session moderated by Prof. Dr. Sözen.
